Not Your Typical Playground: Woods of Net

Imagine an outdoor play structure that is as visually stunning as it is functional. Usually playgrounds, are pretty standard with swings, a slide and perhaps a sandbox. Not this one.

I came across this amazing open air playspace via Design for Mini Kind. It is called 'Woods of Net' located at the Hakone Open-Air Museum in Japan.  I totally fell in love with it.

It was created by Japanese textile artist, Toshiko Horiuchi Macadam in collaboration with the TIS Partners.  The entire netting is hand knitted in beautiful bold colors and designed for play. The timbers that surround the netting are fused together using ancient Japanese techniques. Can you believe this entire structure was build without any metal?! So impressive.

I want to plan a visit to Japan just to watch my kids faces apron entering this beauty.
Have a great Monday!
