Under the Sea

Right before we left San Francisco, Lola was studying ocean animals at her little school.  She was having so much fun talking about all of the underwater creatures that we decided to make our own underwater world to bring with us to Denver.

The first task (of course!) was to make the ocean.   Lola used her painting skills to make a colorful oceanscape on a large piece of paper.

Once the ocean was thoroughly painted, we got to work on the animals.  I found some images to trace using a google image search and cut them out of card board.

Lola then once more got to work painting the ocean animals as she saw fit.

Once the animals were painted, I used a glue gun to attach them to wine corks.

I then glued the other side of the corks directly to our ocean backdrop and created some underwater depth in our "masterpiece".

Lola and I had a great time creating the ocean mural.  It took a few days (and a lot of paint) to complete. It's now hanging in our play room.  Our next step is to add a little seaweed and a few more friends to the group.    Can't wait!

I'd love to know what kind of art projects you've been taking on with your kids recently.  Please share!

Have a great week!

For a similar ocean study projects I have used pipe cleaners for the seaweed or have had the kids roll up different shades of green tissue paper length wise- also a great motor skill.
